the asterix in front of a table or structure allows the use of this table/structure a second time.
As it is a very old concept remaining from SAP's R/2 it is hardly used any more in modern programs.
The basic idea is to have the working data in NAST and the reference data in *NAST. This allows easy checks on changes.
